Secret: Kate was so determined to keep the details of her dress a secret that she had secret meetings with Sarah Burton at Hampton Court
Kate held clandestine meetings with wedding dress designer Sarah Burton at Henry VIII’s favourite palace, it has been claimed.
She was so determined to keep details about the dress a secret until her wedding day that she discussed ideas with Mrs Burton in a temporary studio at Hampton Court Palace in South-West London
Fashion-industry sources close to Mrs Burton, the creative director of British brand Alexander McQueen, say the tourist attraction was chosen because it offered both privacy and proximity to the Royal School of Needlework.
Grand: A temporary studio was set up at Hampton Court Palace because it offered both privacy and proximity to the Royal School of Needlework
The school is situated in the east wing of the palace and was commissioned to provide lace for Kate’s wedding gown and shoes.
Hampton Court was also a convenient stop-over as Kate travelled between her family home in Bucklebury, Berkshire, and Prince William’s apartment, which he shares with Prince Harry, at St James’s Palace.
Clarence House has always acknowledged that the new Duchess of Cambridge wished to keep her dress and its designer a surprise.
However, the full extent of the cloak-and-dagger operation became clear only yesterday, with the disclosure that even the network of embroiderers who handcrafted the lace were not told the name of the designer.
They found out it was for the Royal Wedding just minutes before Kate arrived at Westminster Abbey.
Acclaim: Alexander McQueen's Sarah Burton, pictured with Samantha Cameron. She was chosen because of the fashion house's beauty of its craftsmanship and respect for the technical construction of clothing
Lifting the veil: Burton makes the final adjustments to ensure her dress is seen at its best at Westminster Abbey
Duty calls: Burton was on-hand to ensure every last detail was perfect for Kate's walk down the aisle
Dedicated: Embroiderers washed their hands every 30 minutes while making the lace to ensure it was pristine. Needles were replaced every three hours to keep them sharp and clean
Yet what most people will remember about their first glimpse of the bride is the finely executed hand-made lace swathing her shoulders and bodice – a credit to the embroidery team.
The sight of Kate in the exquisite dress prompted Prince William to draw breath at the altar and say to her: ‘You look beautiful.’
Many commentators have likened the simple, classic style of the gown to that worn by Grace Kelly in 1956, who, like Kate, was a commoner who ¬married a prince.
The lace applique, which featured the four floral emblems of the UK – rose, thistle, daffodil and shamrock – was made using the Carrickmacross lace-making technique, which originated in Ireland in the 1820s.
Part-time needle-workers, aged 19 to 70, laboured tirelessly to complete the order. The process is so time-consuming that it takes even experienced stitchers about an hour to sew an inch.
The dedicated embroiderers washed their hands every 30 minutes while making the lace to ensure it was pristine and replaced their needles every three hours to keep them sharp and clean.
Mrs Burton sourced a series of lace motifs to create a unique design. Each motif, some as small as a five-pence piece, was then crafted with minute stitches every two to three millimetres.
Kate clearly had her own ideas for her bridal gown and the ivory and white satin gazar, long-sleeved dress was the result of a friendly collaboration between the Duchess and Mrs Burton, a popular choice among fashionistas.
The 32-year-old began working with the late Alexander McQueen in 1996 as an intern while she studied at the prestigious Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design in London.
She quickly impressed and by the time of his suicide last February, she was widely regarded as his second-in-command.

Not very Abbey: Cart-wheeling verger carpeted by clerics after becoming wedding web sensation
By JONATHAN PETRE
The Westminster Abbey verger who became an internet sensation after cart-wheeling down the nave following the Royal Wedding has been rebuked by senior staff.
Sources at the Abbey said the man was feeling ‘fairly chastened’ after his impromptu display of acrobatics was caught on film.
Although he is unlikely to face any formal disciplinary action, Abbey staff have warned him not to speak publicly about the incident.
Flipping good time: Verger Ben Sheward lands with a smile after the wedding went without any hitches
While the Abbey has refused to identify him, sources have disclosed he is Ben Sheward, who lives in South London.
The sources said Mr Sheward is believed to have worked at the Abbey for ten years, and he has previously been pictured welcoming new choirboys by sharing sweets with them.
According to some sources, he has studied music in New Zealand and is an expert on the composer Edward Elgar.
Splendour: Only an hour earlier, the new Duchess of Cambridge was was being walked down the aisle
Mr Sheward waited until some 1,900 guests had left the Abbey before seizing his chance to cartwheel down the red carpet that William and Kate had just walked along for the first time as a married couple.
In the clip, the black-cassocked verger is shown strolling down the carpet.
As a number of apparent stragglers from the wedding service look on, he embarks on one cart-wheel, smiles, and then squeezes in at least one other before disappearing out of shot.
ITV cameras caught his antics, which were beamed to millions of viewers around the world, ensuring the unsuspecting verger became an international celebrity
Spectacle: As well as billions who saw it on TV, thousands watched the occasion from outside the Abbey
The clip had already attracted 100,000 internet hits yesterday, and comments on various websites had come from as far afield as the United States and Australia. One said: ‘I think this self-publicist should be sacked!’ Most, however, praised him.
A Westminster Abbey spokesman said: ‘The verger, like all of us, was very pleased the service had gone according to plan, and was expressing his exuberance.’ He emphasised that the incident occurred some time after the wedding had finished.
Sight to behold: Prince William and Kate emerge from the Abbey... it was enough to make one man cart-wheel

Middletons go home ... £250,000 poorer: Family’s huge bill for hotel, banquets, outfits and jewellery
By ROBERT VERKAIK
All smiles: Pippa, in jeans showing off the figure that has won her fans on Facebook, leads her mother Carole, brother James and father Michael out of the Goring Hotel yesterday
After a long day and night of celebrating, the Middletons finally emerged from the five-star Goring Hotel yesterday... perhaps thinking: ‘And about time, too.’
As speculation intensifies over the family’s wealth, inquiries have revealed that the wedding has cost them at least £250,000.
The bill for the exclusive hire of the 71-room hotel near Buckingham Palace is estimated at £85,000 alone. The Royal Suite, where Kate spent her last nights as a single woman is so exclusive, it has not been officially priced.
Rear of the Year? It's already in the bag: Pippa says a final farewell before starting the journey home
But the 200-strong crowd that cheered the family outside the hotel did not detect any regrets as they headed for their chauffeur-driven car, waving and smiling.
Pippa, 27 – carrying a bag and wearing skin-tight white jeans that accentuated the derriere that has inspired many Facebook tribute sites – led out her parents Carole and Michael and younger brother James, 23.
Pricey night: The bill for the exclusive hire of the 71-room Goring Hotel is believed to cost £85,000
The family is also estimated to have paid £25,000 for two parties at the hotel. On Thursday, Kate treated 120 friends and family to a buffet. And after Friday’s ceremony, Carole and Michael hosted an extravagant wedding party for a wider circle. Beluga caviar on The Goring restaurant menu is £400 for 100g while a bottle of Dom Perignon can cost £1,530.
Even if some Middleton guests paid for their rooms and the family secured a discount they will still be facing a bill approaching £100,000.
Last night the hotel said the terms of the booking were private. Kate’s bridal gown, designed by Sarah Burton, is said to have cost up to £40,000. Carole’s outfit by Catherine Walker would have cost £10,000 and Pippa’s dress, also by Sarah Burton, about £20,000.
Kate’s earrings, from Robinson Pelham, are believed to have set her parents back £15,000. A pendant and earrings for Carole, earrings for Pippa and gold tie sticks for Michael and James cost about £30,000.
The bridal shoes, designed at Alexander McQueen, and bridal flowers would have cost at least £3,000. Morning suits for Michael and James, by Gieves & Hawkes, would have cost £10,000. The Middletons would have also paid for suits and dresses for the evening, costing up to £20,000.

Same place, same pose... but two very different stories
By POLLY DUNBAR
Happy: William and Kate surrounded by, clockwise bottom right, The Hon. Margarita Armstrong-Jones, Miss Eliza Lopes, Miss Grace van Cutsem, Lady Louise Windsor, Master Tom Pettifer, Master William Lowther-Pinkerton
The echoes of a Royal wedding from an earlier era are difficult to ignore.
The backdrop is the same: the opulent red-and-gold decor of the grand Throne Room at Buckingham Palace. And the mischievous smiles on the faces of some of the bridesmaids and page boys – and endearingly bewildered expressions on the others – are strikingly similar.
The 1981 wedding party. From back, Prince Andrew, Prince Edward, Diana and Charles, Edward van Cutsem; front: Lord Nicholas Windsor, Clementine Hambro, Catherine Cameron, India Hicks, Sarah-Jane Gaselee and Lady Sarah Armstrong-Jones
But, 30 years after the wedding of Prince Charles and Lady Diana Spencer, the official wedding picture of Prince William and Kate Middleton also reflects the differences between the two couples' relationships.
The photograph of Charles and Diana, taken by Patrick Lichfield, seemed to capture a moment of spontaneous informality, with the wedding party collapsing in a fit of giggles. But, as we now know, the warmth was not reflected in the marriage itself.
By contrast, Kate and William's picture, by photographer Hugo Burnand, appears more formal, despite little Tom Pettifer's insistence on leaning in as close to the bride as possible.
Full of joy and not a care in the world: William and Kate smile broadly as they stand arm-in-arm in the official wedding album
Despite the organised nature of their shot, they look relaxed, their smiles unforced, and her hand rests on his knee.
Mario Testino may have received praise for his engagement portraits of William and Kate, but their choice of Hugo Burnand to take their official wedding pictures has cemented the latter's status as the Royal Family's favourite photographer.
Mr Burnand, 47, has been entrusted with capturing many of the Royals' most important occasions in recent years, including Prince Charles's 60th birthday and his marriage to Camilla. He has also won the respect of the Queen and Princes William and Harry after taking their pictures on previous occasions.

After a light breakfast, the new Duchess of Cambridge emerged from the garden entrance of the Queen’s official residence still on a high, and still wearing the joyous smile that bewitched billions on Friday.
The couple are thought to have spent their first night as man and wife in the ground-floor Belgian Suite of the Palace, which is traditionally reserved for visiting heads of state.

As they strolled hand-in-hand along a gravel path and out on to the lawn, they were bathed in bright sunshine.
Wearing a light blue dress, dark jacket and platform shoes, the same ones she wore at the Goring Hotel on her last night as a commoner, Kate giggled at Prince William’s asides and looked relaxed and confident.
They had wanted a people’s wedding, with limited pomp, and in keeping with that unfussy spirit William announced his intention to go straight back to work.

But postponing the honeymoon to a later date, William, who wore his trademark chinos, light blue shirt and navy jacket, will now return to his job as a search-and-rescue helicopter pilot on Anglesey, probably as early as Tuesday.
Saturday night, however, the couple were staying at an undisclosed location in Britain, possibly Scotland, where they planned to ‘unwind’ over the long weekend.

Kate’s father Michael told the gathered crowd: ‘We had a wonderful time.’
The family then returned to their quiet country home in Chapel Row, near Bucklebury, Berkshire. The village has been bedecked with Union Jacks and bunting as the residents held their own wedding festivities.

Her Royal Hotness will be next to wed... as long as she doesn't run off with Flirty Harry first!
By Sarah Oliver and Katie Nicholl
'Very close': Pippa Middleton last month in the arms of her 30-year-old City broker boyfriend Alex Loudon
It was the day Royal Maid of Honour Pippa Middleton dazzled the world in a dress that left very little to the imagination . . . but it emerged that she may have kept something secret after all.
For it seems that Carole and Michael’s second daughter is engaged in all but name to her City broker boyfriend Alex Loudon.
The couple have stayed silent about the future of their relationship for fear of detracting attention from William and Kate.
If rumours of an official announcement later this year are true, they will cause widespread disappointment, for it seems that in the wake of ‘That Dress’, Pippa could have her pick of suitors.
The sensational fluid white column made by Sarah Burton at Alexander McQueen was an unusual choice both for its bridal colour and its curve-enhancing cling.
In an act of sisterly generosity, Kate must have sanctioned it in the full knowledge that it would showcase Pippa’s fabulous figure, deep tan and glossy hair to perfection on the world stage.
That it did. The second she stepped out on to the red carpet outside Westminster Abbey, shepherding Kate’s four young bridesmaids and two pageboys, a new global media star – Her Royal Hotness, as Pippa was instantly nicknamed – was born.
She trod a carefully calculated line between sheer class and risque sex appeal – and brought a nation’s men to their knees.
The Duke of Edinburgh and Prince Harry, who flirtatiously walked her arm-in-arm back down the aisle after the wedding ceremony, were two of her most immediate admirers in the Abbey. Outside, her appearance ignited the blogosphere and almost led to the crash of Twitter. In America and Australia too, Pippa was declared a knockout.
Those in the Abbey who watched her arrival thought just one thing – that Pippa looked smoking-hot in what was probably the kind of dress Kate would have chosen if she had been a Bucklebury bride and not marrying into the House of Windsor.
But the revelation of the day was not just what a wonderful rear view Pippa offers – her bottom now has its own internet appreciation society, which already had 54,000 members last night – it was her polish, her self-possession, her grace and her diligence towards her sister.
Just as the fraternal bonds between William and Harry were plain to see, the Middleton girls seemed to have a powerful, loving link, with Pippa the best supporting actress in her sister’s romantic drama.

We are amused: Pippa pulls a face as a beaming Harry makes a wisecrack
Much has been written about Kate, already the subject of several biographies, but what do we know of Pippa? Philippa Charlotte Middleton is Carole and Michael
Middleton’s second daughter (she is 27 to Kate’s 29) and their middle child. She was not even at school when her parents founded their company, Party Pieces, on which they would build the family’s financial and social success.
She lived the first ten years of her life in a four-bedroom Victorian villa in Bradfield Southend, Berkshire, before the family moved in 1995 to the mansion where they remain today, two miles away in the village of Bucklebury.
Like her sister, Pippa attended Marlborough College in Wiltshire before following in her footsteps to a Scottish university. But while Kate chose St Andrews, where she met her Prince, Pippa selected the party town of Edinburgh.
She studied English Literature but it would also be fair to say she learned the art of social climbing, aligning herself with ‘the Castle Crew’, the scions of families with land and stately homes.
She shared a home with Lord Edward Innes-Ker, a son of the Duke of Roxburgh (Floors Castle in the Borders), and Earl Percy, heir to the Duke of Northumberland (Alnwick Castle in Northumberland).
A fellow undergraduate summed her up thus: ‘Pippa arrived knowing no one and made it her business to leave knowing everyone.’ A prime example is her surprising friendship with Prince Harry’s on-off girlfriend Chelsy Davy. Said a source: ‘They are very good friends and when Chelsy is in London, they often go out together. They are much closer than Chelsy and Kate.
‘At the beginning it used to upset Kate – she felt left out. But at heart Pippa is a party girl and she likesto have fun, so she and Chelsy had some really good nights out together, which Chelsy and Kate have never actually done.’
After graduation, Pippa carved a career that would combine the two significant interests in her life – ¬partying and networking. She went to work for events planner Table Talk, where her ferocious organis¬ational skills and attention to detail combined with her bulging contacts book quickly elevated her to the capital’s A-list.
In 2008 she was named Number One Society Singleton by Tatler magazine, ahead of models, actresses, rock stars and heiresses. She even eclipsed her new brother-in-law’s cousin Princess Eugenie.
But her single status was merely a pause between well-heeled and well-connected boyfriends. They include Jonathan ‘JJ’ Jardine Paterson, an heir to the Hong Kong Jardine Matheson fortune, Scottish aristocrat Billy More Nesbitt and diamond heir Simon Youngman.
A year ago she began dating Alex Loudon, 30, who, crucially, has been a friend of Prince William since Eton. His growing importance in her life was underlined when it was revealed that he had attended Kate’s confirmation service just weeks before her wedding and by his presence in the front row of the Middletons’ family seats at the Abbey.
A friend revealed: ‘Pippa has been busy planning her sister’s wedding so she and Alex are biding their time. But they are very close and may well be the next couple to make an announcement once Royal Wedding fever has died down.
‘They have been virtually living together in London, and Pippa is a regular visitor to his family’s stately home in Kent, Olantigh Towers. Alex can’t see himself spending his future with anyone else and Pippa, although very picky, thinks Alex ticks all the right boxes – he has the family pile in the country, a smart job in London and he is very handsome.’
He must have been the envy of many as a million watched Pippa’s carriage ride and balcony appearance in her show-stopping frock and two billion more viewed her on television. The bias-cut satin column skimmed her lissom frame, the cowl neck giving a hint of decolletage and slim fit across her bottom accentuating what is now considered by legions of fans to be her best feature. She wore lily-of-the-valley in her hair and ¬floral diamond earrings, a wedding gift commissioned by her parents.
Without the talents of Sarah Burton – and the subtle corsetry and invisible
underpinnings required for modesty – and her own sense of style, the dress could have been a designer disaster. But instead, it was a triumph. At no stage did Pippa upstage the bride, but she certainly looked as though she was on the same team.
The question must be: What can she do to trump it? Will she indeed settle for married life and a career as a party planner now she has emerged as half of the world’s best-known sister act?
She could learn a lesson from one of the other great dynastic marriages of modern history, that of Jacqueline Bouvier to John F. Kennedy in Rhode Island in 1953. Then Jackie’s younger sister Lee Radziwill – the glamorous party girl to her sister’s more demure and aloof first lady – was the much discussed matron of honour. Their sisterly dynamic generated the same kind of comment as Kate and Pippa’s today, and from it Lee went on to ¬construct a public profile, a career and a grand fortune.
While Pippa is far too classy to cash in, she is surely on the cusp of a kind of greatness of her own, albeit one begun by association. And just like her magnificent sister, she has proved beyond doubt that a girl doesn’t need blue blood to be a natural aristocrat.

He looked like a man who’d enjoyed himself just a little too much the night before. His copper-coloured hair was sticking out in all directions, his weary face betrayed the telltale signs of a late night and a surfeit of champagne.
But in spite of all that – or, in part, because of it – Prince Harry was a joy to behold on Friday.
Without overstepping the mark, he managed to deliver just enough of his trademark cheeky charm to add a youthful sparkle to the day.
Harry was a godsend for William, distracting him from his anxiety by chatting away as they waited for Kate at the Abbey. Seeing the pair’s easy manner left no doubt that they are fantastic friends as well as brothers.
Without overstepping the mark, he managed to deliver just enough of his trademark cheeky charm to add a youthful sparkle to the day
It was Harry who spied the bride first and, touchingly, told his brother: ‘Right, she is here now.’ If William was nervous, a look at Harry’s mischievous grin must have provided immense reassurance.
Harry’s walk with Pippa down the aisle after the service was one of the most entertaining parts of the day.
His whispers and her unsuccessful attempts to stop giggling prompted a deluge of tweets, text messages and Facebook updates, all speculating at what stage in the evening reception he would make a pass at her.
And it was easy to guess who was responsible for the impromptu appearance on The Mall of the happy couple in Prince Charles’s Aston Martin after their wedding breakfast. Harry had earlier sneaked into the garage to decorate the open-top car.
Amid the pomp and ceremony, the balloon-festooned convertible, with its number plate of JU5T WED, thrilled the crowds, who must have thought the entertainment had finished for the day.
The Prince we saw at the wedding had come a long way from the boy dubbed a ‘wild child’ in his younger days, after being caught smoking cannabis and drinking at 17.
There followed serious lapses of judgment – wearing a swastika armband at a fancy-dress party and his referring to a fellow cadet as ‘our little Paki friend’ seemed to suggest he was turning into an over-privileged, insensitive Hooray Henry – yet another Royal embarrassment. But in recent years, he has calmed down
His time at Sandhurst, his Army career – including a stint in Afghanistan – and his long-term relationship with Chelsy Davy have curbed his excesses. Even the disappointment of being pulled out of Afghanistan after the media blackout protecting him was blown helped him accept that there is no escaping his role in ‘The Firm’.
But one thing’s for certain: Harry is not going to abandon his role as the joker any time soon – and nor would we wish him to.

Chelsy Davy may have been back with Prince Harry for the big day – but there is no Royal Wedding on the horizon for them.
Zimbabwean-born Chelsy, 26, returned to the UK from South Africa for the wedding and is said to be giving her on-off relationship with Harry another chance. But she has told friends: ‘There’s no way we are getting married. It’s not a life for me.’
Prince Harry invited Chelsy to the wedding as his ‘plus one’, and he has told friends he wants to make their five-year relationship work.
But she is putting her job first – she starts work as a trainee solicitor at London law firm Allen & Overy in September. A friend says: ‘Chelsy and Harry are back together and it was very significant that she was his plus one for the day.
‘Harry adores Chelsy and really wants things to work. He has brought up marriage in the past – usually when he’s drunk – but Chelsy’s the one to quickly play it all down.
‘She has watched what Kate has gone through and how much she has had to sacrifice, and says it’s not for her.
‘Chelsy thought the wedding was wonderful and she had a ball, but there’s no way marriage is on the cards for her. She wants her freedom and to start a career.
That’s her focus at the moment, she and Harry are going to see how things go.’
Chelsy was invited to Friday’s wedding reception, wedding breakfast and even¬ing dinner where she was seated at the top table with Prince Harry.
At the all-night disco at Buckingham Palace, she and the Prince spent much of the night dancing together. When they finally left at three in the morning, Chelsy accompanied Harry to the Goring Hotel to continue the party.
‘They were all over each other and Harry went back to Chelsy’s flat before sneaking out and going home. They were very much an item, but who knows what will happen now,’ says a source. ‘They have a very turbulent relationship.’
While Chelsy prepares to start work, Prince Harry has another eight months at RAF Wattisham in Suffolk, where he is training to be an Apache helicopter pilot.
‘Harry’s got to get his head down so he completes his training but he is much happier with Chelsy moving back to London,’ the source said. ‘She wants to make it work – she has missed Haz – but the truth is she really doesn’t like the attention that comes with dating a prince.’
..............................................................................
The wedding was the first Royal ceremony to be recorded digitally, with the official audio version available to be downloaded online within an hour of the event’s end. Kate wanted the soundtrack to her big day to be available to the public worldwide via sites such as iTunes. The official Royal Wedding CD will be available on Wednesday.

'Where are the black people?' asks Sherri Shepherd as The View hosts discuss Royal Wedding
By Daily Mail Reporter
Burning question: Sherri Shepherd was searching for black people at the Royal wedding on The View today
Never mind who wore what, the View's Sherri Shepherd had another more controversial question about the Royal Wedding today.
'Where are the black people?' the outspoken actress, 44, asked as the panellists critiqued Prince William and Kate Middleton's ceremony.
The star said she had earlier searched through the footage of guests at Westminster Abbey.
'Audrey Jones our producer was looking for the black people in the wedding and we found our Rosa Parks moment, because we were like 'where are the black people'?' she said.
'It was like where's Waldo, where are the black people?' she added.
'We found one little black child in the choir but where's the black people at this wedding?' she repeated.
'Wait a minute the Calvary guy, from New York,' said Goldie Hawn, 65, who was a guest host for the day.
Hot topic: The panel discussed the Royal Ceremony today
'Well the guests, there they are,' said Sherri, pointing to an area in the Abbey reserved for foreign royals, Governor generals and high-level diplomats.
'They are segregated but they are at the front so we have our Rosa Parks moment,' she added referring to the African-American civil rights activist Rosa Parks who refused to obey a bus driver's order to give up her seat for a white passenger on December 1, 1955.
'I don't know why they put all the black people over here but they are at the front of the wedding so I ain't complaining, they got in the front,' added Sherri.
The women also mocked the Queen and the dresses of princesses Eugenie and Beatrice.
'Rosa Parks moment': Sherri pointed to a screen showing a small group of black people at the front of the congregation
Joy Behar, 68, said the Queen of England looked like: 'A bumble bee with a drinking problem,' live on air.
'Holy Moly, who wears yellow?' continued the comedian, who was wearing a crinkled brown suit.
'I've never seen a Queen wearing yellow, she looks like a taxi cabkeep that meter running Queenie,' she added.
When talking of the outlandish Philip Treacy hats of Eugenie and Beatrice host Sherri Shepherd said: 'Oh my god, that is Lady Gaga. Straight.'
Joy Behar said the Queen looked like 'a bumble bee with a drinking problem'
'They look like they are auditioning for Let's Make a Deal, you know that show?' said Joy, referring to an old NBC game show where audience members used to dress in hilarious costumes, often like clowns.
'They look like horns,' said Sherri.
'Like a deer in the headlights,' added Goldie Hawn
The cackling celebrities from The View were not the only Americans to take a pop at the Royal Wedding.
Actress and comedian Kathy Griffin, 50, also took the opportunity to have a dig at the Royals during a TV Guide Network special that broadcast after the wedding.
'Look at Posh's second head,' Ms Griffin said, referring to Victoria Beckham's Phillip Treacy hat.
Joke: Actress Kathy Griffin said the Queen looked like she had taken a nap during the wedding service
Spotting Guy Ritchie among the congregation gave the comedian a chance to make a joke about his ex-wife Madonna.
'That’s gotta hurt Madonna. Madonna’s at home in her apartment with Sarah Furgeson and they are eating donut holes and crying,' she told her panelists, including author Jackie Collins.
She added that the Queen had decided to 'take a nap' during the service, describing it as 'fantastic.'
'I am out, I am Queen, I can decide I am bored. Spice it up I never heard this song,' she imagined the Queen as saying.

He is infamous for his bad jokes and the Queen and Prince Philip opted to stay away from Buckingham Palace as Harry turned Palace jester last night.
And Prince Charles was reportedly in jovial mood - joking about his newly-married son going bald. William hit back with a joked about his father's waistline.

After a very public wedding watched by an estimated two billion people, the new Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will be hoping for some privacy on their honeymoon.
The royals are expected to set off to a mystery location today and William has taken a fortnight's leave from his job as an RAF Search and Rescue pilot for the holiday.
The destination has so far been shrouded in secrecy, with William having reportedly not even told his new wife where they are going, but speculation is rife over possible choices.
The Duchess had switched into a new white outfit for last night's party - also created by Sarah Burton who designed her wedding gown.
The second dress was a strapless white satin gazar evening dress with a circle skirt and diamante embroidered detail round the waist, St James's Palace said.
Kate was also wearing a white angora bolero cardigan.

EVEN KATE DOESN'T KNOW WHERE SHE'S GOING ON HONEYMOON TODAY
The royal couple's honeymoon destination remains a closely-guarded secret as they try to enjoy a private break together after the most public of weddings.
The Caribbean, Australia, Kenya and Jordan are among the exotic destinations that William and Kate could fly to.
Bookmakers had this morning made Kenya the 3-1 joint favourite after a punter had tried to place a £5,000 stake.
But they may continue their wedding theme of championing the UK and spend part of their break in Scotland, where both the Queen and the Prince of Wales have private homes they could use.
Bookies are also offering 3-1 odds on William and Kate heading north of the border.
The Duke is known to have a deep affection for Africa, and would be on safe romantic territory if he chose to take his wife to Kenya, where he proposed to her last year.
Jordan, with its plethora of ancient sites, has also been touted as a possibility for the couple's honeymoon.
The Middle Eastern country would no doubt have nostalgic appeal for Kate as her family spent two years there when she was a child. However its proximity to hotspots such as Syria could count against the country.
If they are keen to escape the prying eyes of the media, a secluded Caribbean island might be a safe choice.
Bequia and Necker Island all have the benefit of being easily secured, as does the ultra-exclusive Mustique, where Kate's parents Carole and Michael Middleton are frequent visitors.
Lizard Island, off the coast of Queensland, Australia, has also emerged as a contender.
However, with William resuming his pilot duties in two weeks, the significant jetlag likely from such a far-flung trip could rule it out.
They may also be tempted by Chile, as they both spent time in the South American country during their gap years before university.
Thirty years ago, William's parents the Prince and Princess of Wales spent the first stage of their honeymoon in Romsey in Hampshire, where they stayed at Broadlands, the family home of the Mountbattens.
The second part of their holiday was spent on board the royal yacht Britannia. They boarded at the Rock of Gibraltar before cruising to Algeria, Tunisia, Sicily, the Greek islands and Egypt.
Finally, they went to Scotland to spend time with the Royal Family in Balmoral.

Kate's mother Carole Middleton smiled after stumbling slightly as she came down the stairs at the hotel and her son James placed a guiding hand on her back as she climbed into a silver people carrier.
Yesterday, bridesmaid Grace van Cutsem had no qualms about showing her annoyance at the traditions of the day.
The three-year-old covered her ears grumpily as the flypast took place noisily overhead.
She may, too, have been grimacing about the soppy sweet nothings being whispered just over her left shoulder.
A lip reader’s analysis showed that, following their first kiss, William touchingly told his new bride ‘I love you’ before going in for a second crowd-thrilling embrace.
‘Let’s give them another one. l love you. One more kiss, one more kiss, okay,’ he said.
After the final kiss he gently mocked the enthusiasm of the cheering hordes, saying: ‘Come on! Come on! More! More! More!’
