Kathy Reichs, Hardcover Mysteries, and Louise Ellis

Monday night, Nov. 22, Investigation Discovery's latest episode of Hardcover Mysteries features Kathy Reichs and the story that inspired her first book, Deja Dead.  This new episode debuts at 9 PM ET.

Louise Ellis was a Canadian journalist who disappeared on a weekend trip in 1995.  The trip caught the attention of the media in Canada, particularly since Ellis was a journalist herself.  When Ellis' husband, Brett Morgan, reported her missing, a friend found her locked and empty car.  Suspects included Morgan, and Louise's ex-boyfriend, John, who she was planning to visit that weekend.  But, where is Ellis' body?

Hardcover Mysteries presents viewers with a fascinating case, and allows authors to discuss the cases in relationship to their books.  In this episode, writer and forensic anthropologist Kathy Reichs talks about her Bones series featuring Temperance Brennan, and the inspiration she drew from this case.  Reichs said this case had the same twists and turns, along with false leads, that she tries to include for her sophisticated thriller readers.  Reichs' numerous fans will be intrigued with her connection to this investigation, and her narration of this episode of Hardcover Mysteries.  Discover the answer to this mystery on Monday, Nov. 22 at 9 PM.

Hardcover Mysteries on Investigation Discovery

I seldom talk about TV shows here, but Investigation Discovery's new series, Hardcover Mysteries, pairs two of my favorite subjects, history and mystery.  The series debuts on Monday night, October 11, at 9 PM ET.  And, if you're a fan of thrillers, you'll get to see some of your favorite New York Times bestselling authors discuss the true crime stories that inspired them.  Over the course of this first season, the series will feature David Baldacci, Harlan Coben, Sandra Brown, Kathy Reichs, Linda Fairstein, Sara Paretsky, Lisa Scottoline, and Joseph Wambaugh.  "Each episode of Hardcover Mysteries pairs an author with a real-life case close to their heart, whether it inspired one of their own creations, mirrors the themes presented in their bestsellers or resonates with their personal life story."  That's all I need to tell you, right? Or, would you like to see the trailer for the series?  www.youtube.com/watch?v=0TU_I73P-r8

But, I have more to tell you.  I was fortunate to be able to preview the first episode.  David Baldacci is featured in a story of sex, politics, secrets, and murder,  "Death in D.C." in October 1964.  It's not surprising that the author of Absolute Power is intrigued with the murder of Mary Meyer.  The episode synopsis says, "In 1964, Mary Meyer, a DC socialite married to a CIA director, was found murdered on a path near her home. ... Mary kept a secret diary, which detailed an affair with President Kennedy, and lead to many conspiracy theories implicating the CIA. It also formed the partial basis for David Baldacci's first best-seller, Absolute Power."

The show reenacts the murder while Baldacci, reporters, lawyers, and others analyze the case.  Since Mary Meyer was Ben Bradlee's sister-in-law, he is one of the people interviewed, along with attorney Robert Bennett.

Here's a teaser for Monday night's show, a show broken down into "Chapters."  www.youtube.com/watch?v=or6S_JN2agY.  I found Hardcover Mysteries intriguing.  It's just up my alley.  And, I'm looking forward to future episodes to see if they all follow the formula with the "Chapters" and authors.  Fans of the authors, and true crime as it relates to thrillers, might want to pre-order the series from iTunes, iTunes.com/HardcoverMysteries.

Some of our favorite thriller and crime authors, true crime, and history.  I think Hardcover Mysteries might be a hit with those of us who are avid readers of the genre.  Watch for it on Monday nights, if you like this combination.
