New York City - Day 1

Lots of walking on Thursday. We went to breakfast at 8 at Junior's (my landmark. I can find my way back from there.), and didn't come back to the hotel until 4 p.m. We walked around a few blocks first to get our bearings, so we could find all of the theaters where we're going to shows. Then we just walked, first through Times Square. Just happened to see them filming Good Morning, America, then we walked down to Rockefeller Center.

We continued to walk, and when we saw Grand Central Station, decided to go see it.

From Grand Central Station, we went to the Morgan Library. My gosh! The study and library there are fantastic. A Gutenberg Bible, a bestiary, a Book of Hours. Pages in Elizabeth Barrett Browning's handwriting. So much to see. We saw the Diary Exhibit. Jim would have appreciated the page and drawing from Bob Dylan's diary. And, we saw a fun exhibit of books and fashion from France and the Netherlands in the 15th and 16th century. The commentary added an extra touch of humor to it. Captions were quite funny, and, as we read it, A. told me she though Carson Kressley from Queer Eye for the Straight Guy wrote the comments. Someone had a great sense of humor. We met her friend, Jen, an editor at HarperCollins, for lunch in the very ritzy dining room at the Morgan. Great conversation. Jen is another cat person, who is down to 9 cats. And, of course, we talked books.

And here's a sign you won't see in the Phoenix area of Arizona, or my previous home in Florida. We're guessing snow plows, but liked the sign.

After leaving the Morgan Library, we were walking in the direction of our hotel when A. noticed that we were walking on the Library Walk. It led us to the New York Public Library. We didn't go in because we have plans to visit on Saturday. So, here are some of the plaques on the walk, the street sign, and, then the library.

From the library, we made our way back to the hotel for an hour, then headed to dinner at Virgil's, a highly recommended barbeque restaurant. Then, off to see The Importance of Being Earnest, starring Brian Bedford as Lady Bracknell. The whole cast was good, but Bedford was fantastic.

And, the walk back at 11 p.m. with Times Square as crowded as 11 a.m. just proved that New York never sleeps. Love it!
